Determinations of the oxygen radial abundance gradient from galactic
planetary nebulae and HII regions are reviewed. The application of
the simple model for the chemical evolution of the Galaxy is shown to
account for the observed gradients for type II planetary nebulae, which
are disk objects with intermediate mass progenitors.
